April 12, 2012 Meeting
President Jeremy Fohrenkamm called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.Lots of people drove their cars out tonight, but finding a parking space was not easy. Apparently, there was some other big event at the Officers' Club tonight so most of the parking lot was full. The Spring Shakedown Tour is coming up on April 21. It starts at Point Douglas Park, and the group departs at 10:30 a.m. Jeremy expects the drive to conclude around 3 p.m.
On April 28, there's a tech session and open house at Midwest Manor Sports for Dan Iberg.Membership Chair Lenny Kukuruza counted 106 members. She mentioned that quite a few people have chosen to use the new PayPal option to pay their membership dues, which is great. You can find the PayPal option on our updated website by clicking on the "Join" page in the navigation. So far, very few people have requested a spot at the Spring Kickoff. Anyone wanting one of the Golden Tickets should contact Jeremy. The kids at Roosevelt High School will be bringing their Spitfire project car to the Spring Kickoff.
Speaking of Roosevelt High School, the school is hosting its second annual car show on May 18 (Friday). The event is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the school, which is at 4029 28th Ave. S. For more information, reach out to Curtis Franks - 612-668-4832 or cfranks@mpls.k12.mn.us.Tom Hazen has another hill climb that he's organizing in Buffalo County, Wis., but it's only open to cars that are from 1979 or older. It's scheduled for Sept. 22. Registration is $50 for members of the Austin Healey Club, and $65 for everyone else. (This doesn't conflict with Wheels & Wings since W&W was moved to Sept. 8 this year.) Nancy G. mentioned that Ellingson's Museum changing. They're auctioning off a lot of the memorabilia. You can still go to see a bunch of old cars, but they are trying to sell the cars - they are not going to be a museum any more.
The Hanger Dance is on May 19 - that's the place where last fall's mystery tour ended. The event is $15, but Dick Leighninger will have $5-off coupons at the May meeting.Mystery Tour and Sausage Sunday Barbeque is scheduled for May 20. Watch for more info on this one. August 17, 18 and 19 is the weekend for the tour in Reedsburg, Wis. It's an open schedule - come and go as you want. Russ is looking for an idea of the number of participants.
